Outside Reading: Child of the Owl 1.The book Child of the Owl talks about an American-Chinese girl called Casey, learning how to accept the culture of China when living in the Chinatown. As we know, at that time American-Chinese neither Chinese or Americans. They are crowded out by native Americans, cause they appearances are same with Asians, the foreigns. On the other side, American-Chinese speaks English, eat American food, have American teachers and friends, learn American culture. Chinese all gather together to live in Chinatown, the narrow surrounding. They speak Chinese, use Chinese Writing, eat Chinese food, all the people around them are Chinese, learning Chinese culture. That’s the unique point that Casey has. Before Casey came to Chinatown, her father Barney let her live in the house of Uncle Phil. His two daughters Pam-Pam and Annette. Students should be reminded that they will never feel or say such negative things to their friends, especially who are struggling with problems. Teachers or other students should reframe them into positive ones. This positivity helps students think that they are good enough and eventually they will succeed. Efforts should be praised and not intelligence: People should believe in boosting self-confidence of the students and academic performance. Recent studies have shown that perseverance is hindered by these kinds of praises if intelligence is given more importance. Failures and mistakes should be seen as a growth perspective: Students who are perfectionists, they have more fear of failure. They avoid giving up easily on the subjects or activities. Students should be given chance to struggle: Sometimes teachers are tempted to rush in to help the students when they come to know that they are facing problems in the assignment. Although, struggle is important in order to build self-confidence and perseverance. The urge to intervene should be resisted by the teachers so that the student learns the trait of perseverance on their own. An approach called teamwork is not at all new to people. It is rather historic and probably older that the phenomenon of formal organization. Its benefits were known by the people in 1920s only. In todays world, a team player is known to be as skilled person and is capable of becoming a exceptional employee. Teamwork is defined as the joint action done by the group of people in which every person subordinates his or her interests and opinions to the utility and efficiency of the group. It means that work can be done efficiently and effectively when one individual goes beyond to work in teams. When all the members of the team harmonize their contributions and their goals towards work, the effective team work can be produced which will eventually take the team to the common goal they share. It is very important for the students to learn the function in a team environment in order to learn teamwork when they enter into the world of jobs. Researches have been made where it is found that students learn best from the tasks which involves tasks and social interactions. If instructor is making students learn this skill of teamwork, they must recognize the difference between the individual and group of people working in teams(Kamarudin Rehman, 2012). School practices, often, emphasizes upon the competition and individual achievement over collaboration achievement. But by using cooperative learning for some of the activities, instructors might develop problem solving skills and social skills in the individuals so that they can communicate and make decisions whenever needed(E. Asyali, Saatcioglu, Cerit, 2014). Although, cooperative learning does not actually help in developing teamwork skills. But in case of the cooperative learning, if it is structured properly, it can help the students to learn how to work in groups as well. Two founders, Mueller and Fleming in the year 2001, found out that teachers play an important role in setting up conditions for the group learning and enhancing teamwork in students. Although, this approach had some problems associated with it. The teachers were uncomfortable with the collaborative approach. Then in the year 2002, Ettington and Camp found out that teachers provide proper planning in order to make improvement in the teamwork skills in students(Holloway, 2004). Teachers must design the group tasks with important consideration of the skills development. Then teachers should create groups which requires skills for the task. Then monitoring of the groups should be done by the teachers only in order to check whether the students are learning the skills or not. Finally, evaluation must be done by the teachers and based on the evaluation, rewards should be given so that the students also feel encouraged and learn faster. Rewards will make them learn fast and keep them motiva ted(Lingard, 2010). Both the skills, perseverance and team work is important for a person to grow in this world of today. Learning teamwork is important for students as well as the trait of perseverance too. The First Amendment Says Its All Right To Express Ones Opinions As Lon

The first amendment says it's all right to express one's opinions as long as that opinion doesn't do any harm to others. Flag Burning, as the Supreme Court declared it, is protected underneath the first amendment whether you or I like it or not. That is a fact. If the majority believes it's unjust to this country then I suppose that they come up with a new amendment to declare flag burning unconstitutional. Until they do that, then flag burning will remain legal. I am not saying that burning our nation's flag, which is dear to my and many other citizens of this country's hearts, is right. But as long as the first amendment says what it does, then there's nothing that we can do about it. Burning our dear nation's flag is destructive to this country, and it needs to stop. But they do have the right even though it's not right. What we who oppose flag burning need to do is protest against those who participate in flag burning, without causing violence. If we cause violence, then we would be stooping down to their low level, and it wouldn't solve anything. Flag Burning disgraces all who put their sweat and tears to fight long and hard for this country's freedom. Those brave honorable heroes are the reason why we are the United States of America, and are the reason why we are lucky enough to bear a flag with such honor, nobility, and grace. Burning our nation's flag is dishonorable to those founders of this great country. That is no way to show respect to the people who battled to earn the right for our country's freedom. I know that the reasons behind all of this foolish flag burning is just a way to protest. But, if the protesters could just take a step back and see how ridiculously foolish they are being, then they would realize just how much they are disrespecting this country. If your going to protest, find another way to express your opinions. And if you are protesting because you don't like this country, then leave. No one is forcing you to stay. Yes, flag burning is protected under the first amendment, but it is wrong. Let's take a stand and protect this country from falling to these foolish, heartless protesters. Let's make burning the flag indefinitely wrong!
